Melissa Castleman published her first piece for a national magazine at age twelve. Between now and then, she has worked as a magazine editor and a freelance writer and editor. Her articles have appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Women’s Health, Cooking Light, and Art & Antiques Magazine.

Melissa writes about food, travel, art, health, and just about anything interesting that comes a freelancer’s way. She has eaten slimy seaweed fresh off the beach for breakfast for an article. She has also milked goats to make cheese, swum with giant sea tortoises, and sampled her way through an entire chocolate shop while on assignment.

Melissa is drawn to people with a huge passion for what they make or do. She loves that journalism gives her a window into their kitchens, studios, homes, and all the possible ways there are to walk this earth. She is the winner of the Detroit Free Press Writing Award of Excellence and was a featured writer in the Columbia Selects Reading Series.
